Documents required for ISI mark certification

The following are the essential documents required to obtain ISI Mark Certification:

How to obtain ISI certification in India

BIS receives the application from the manufacturer, along with all required documents and fees. BIS inspects the factory, tests a product sample, then makes an independent test report. BIS ISI certification is given if product quality meets confirmed standards.

The following are the steps required for ISI certification:

  • The first step is to choose the ISI standard product code for your product. This will ensure that it meets all of the BIS guidelines. The applicant will need to identify and choose an ISI-standard product code.
  • After you have selected the code for your product, you will be able to apply online. The applicant will also have to pay for audit fees and registration charges.
  • BIS inspection of factory premises: After we have filed the application, the BIS Office will send an inspection team to the factory of the applicant. They will examine quality control and manufacturing processes. Officer will send samples of products to a BIS certified lab for testing.
  • The sample report must be submitted to BIS.
  • ISI Certificate Grant: After the inspection and application process is completed, BIS will issue an ISI Certificate. The process to obtain ISI certification usually takes about 30 days after the application date.

Validity of ISI Certificate and Renewal

The ISI Certificate is only valid for one year. It can be renewed after that by submitting a renewal request and paying renewal fees. A practising CA must examine the application for renewal.

The ISI Mark Certification Application Rejection Reasons

The BIS will reject an ISI if certain conditions are not met.

  • The samples must be tested after the ISI request is submitted.
  • There is enough technical staff at the manufacturer.
  • This firm is engaging in unethical practices.
  • If the visiting official is not provided with assistance by the manufacturer during the visit to the factory;
  • The firm may not have submitted the correct documents or has incomplete documents.
  • There is a large deviation between the facility (BIS) and the facility declared;
  • The manufacturer may not have enough technical staff.
  • Samples drawn for testing do not pass the test
  • The manufacturer may not have the necessary facilities to test their products.

The BIS gives you 21 days to review the ISI Certification Application. During this time, you can either speak with a BIS representative or in person. The BIS may reject an application if the applicant’s reasons are not satisfactory.
