Essential upgrade relating to Indian Standard appropriate to all existing Licence owners/ New applicants/ suppliers/ importers/ item vendors for the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (EC Grade Aluminium Rod produced by Continuous Casting and Rolling) (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has actually released an amendment to the quality control order titled the “Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024.”
This modification order will be effective from September 26, 2024.
Previously, under the ‘Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products’ (Quality Control) Order, 2023, specific exceptions were offered tiny and micro business as specified by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006. These exceptions have been expanded up until December 26, 2024, for tiny business and until March 26, 2025, for micro-enterprises.
According to the modified Order, all products or posts related to ‘Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products’ have to comply with the corresponding Indian Standard 5484:1997, specifically focusing on “EC Grade Aluminium Rod produced by Continuous Casting and Rolling”. These items have to bear the ‘Standard Mark’ and acquire a certificate from the Bureau of Indian Standards, by Scheme-1 detailed in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The certification and enforcement authority for ‘Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products’ as defined in this Order is the Bureau of Indian Standards.
