Two Goa firms get closure notice over plastic waste rules

Two business establishments in Goa were issued a “show reason” notification by the Central Pollution Control Board for non-compliance with the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016.

The CPCB issued a notice to notice of show cause to 688 companies located in India and two of them were in Goa. The entities received notice of the steps that were taken: shutting down operations at the plant; as well as charging environmental compensation for not complying with the regulations that are in Plastic Waste Management Rules.

Swanson Plastics India Pvt Ltd, Honda Sattari; and GKB Vision Pvt Ltd, Pilerne Industrial Estate are both given a show-cause notification.

By the law according to the rule, the compensation for environmental damage in case of non-compliance with EPR goals is Rs. 5000/tonne.

Cause Notices are sent to all producers, importers, and brands. Cause Notifications of Show Cause are sent out to every importer, producer Brand owner, brand owner, and plastic waste processor who is involved with industrial and recycling that hasn’t registered in the CPCB’s central extended Producers Responsibility portal as notified by the Union Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The units were required to sign up before the 30th of November 2023.

It is possible to recall that on the 16th of February in 2022 The Ministry released guidelines on the extension of producer liability in plastic packaging.

The guidelines required certain companies to register on the EPR Portal. The portal prohibited them from carrying businesses without registration. They were also barred by the portal from dealing with companies that were not legally registered.
