A group from Bureau of Indian Specification (BIS) Chennai Branch Office carried out an enforcement raid on Wednesday at Hima Aqua Minerals, an unapproved packaged alcohol consumption water bottling plant in Pappan Kuppam Village, Gummidipoondi.
Performing on info of a believed violation of BIS Act, 2016, officials seized a total stock of 8,640 one-liter PET containers, 558 two-liter PET bottles, 12,288 500ml PET containers, and 3,600 300ml PET containers loaded with water and classified with spurious ISI marks.
Roughly 10,000 labels with fake ISI marks were also seized. The plant was discovered selling water under the brands “hima” and “Super” without a valid BIS licence. G Bhavani, head of Chennai Branch Office, specified that activity would be launched versus the wrongdoer, with penalties including imprisonment of approximately two years or a fine varying from 2 lakh to 10 times the value of products.
