Ensure pre-mixes not sold as health or energy drinks: FSSAI to e-firms

The nation’s peak food safety and safety regulatory authority has asked internet sites marketing food items to ensure that drinks or pre-mixes such as Bournvita, Complan and Horlicks are not offered under the ‘health and wellness beverage’ or ‘power beverage’ category.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) asserted this will definitely assure that people are not misinformed.

This will apply to all web sites and apps that market food such as food delivery applications like Swiggy or Zomato, grocery store distribution applications such as Blinkit or Zepto, along with general shopping websites such as Amazon.

“This corrective activity intends to improve clarity and transparency relating to the nature and useful property or business homes of the products, making sure that customers can make informed choices without coming across deceptive information,” FSSAI stated in a declaration.

FSSAI claimed these are certified as exclusive foods as there is no classification called health and wellness and health drinks under the act that regulates food in the country.

“Proprietary items are essentially those that make use of parts for which safety requirements exist in the law, however except the solution all at once. As there is no category called wellness drinks, the beverages must not be categorised because of this on websites as a result of the reality that it can misinform individuals,” claimed an authorities.
