The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) FSSAI took food samples throughout the state including Bengaluru. The results of the tests “confirmed the presence of Rhodamine B” which is which is a carcinogen that has been added to food items to provide them with a vibrant hue.
Dinesh Gundu Rao Health Minister is set be announcing on Monday that he will be imposing a prohibition on selling cotton candy and other food products.
The tests conducted in January conducted at an official lab at Tamil Nadu revealed that the cotton candy was “very dangerous” due to Rhodamine. The Puducherry government as well as government officials from the Tamil Nadu government banned cotton candy following the test results.
Rhodamine B, also known as a low-cost dye used in cotton candy and various sweets, such as candies, jellies, and surprisingly chilli powder.
“We collected cotton candy from across the state. We also collected random samples of food items which were believed to contain chemicals to create a beautiful vibrant color. If consumed, these chemicals can trigger a myriad of health issues, including stomach pain and irritation to the throat. They also are also able to cause birth defects as well as various types of cancers.” explained the FSSAI official.
