In the MoU signed between GTU and BIS this week, GTU states that it will introduce standardization topics to academics. The Bureau will supply all inputs needed to create teaching modules on the concept of standardization and conformity assessment.A signed agreement with the Bureau of Indian Standards will see that the Gujarat Technological University (GTU), in its engineering curriculum, includes topics on standardization.
The MoU signed by GTU & BIS this week states: “GTU will introduce standardization topics to academics. For which the Bureau will provide all the inputs needed to create teaching modules relating the concept of conformity assessments and standardization.“We must adhere to standards in order to compete on the global market. Many are not known to the public. GTU will, for the first ever, develop infrastructure support for research and development relevant standardization as part of the MoU with state technical university. The Bureau will support projects relevant to standardization,” GTU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajul Gajjar told The Indian Express in an interview.GTU will participate in BIS Technical Committees on the National and International Levels, conduct research, and develop Standards and Conformity Assessments.In the MoU, GTU and BIS agreed to organise short-term education programs and joint training, as well as investigate the possibility of setting up a centre of excellence in the area standardisation tests and compliance assessments at GTU. They also explored the option of hiring GTU professors on a secondment basis. According to the conditions of the MoU, Prof Rajul Gajjar feels that it is time for BIS to face new challenges in the area of techno-engineering.
