JAMMU, July 26: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) team from Jammu and Kashmir recently conducted a search and seizure operation at the premises of M/S Jindal Soap Factory, located in the Wariyana Industrial Complex, Jalandhar. The operation uncovered that the factory was engaged in the manufacturing and sale of Aluminium Alloy Bare Foil for Food Packaging without the mandatory BIS certification mark.
The discovery of this serious violation of the quality control order, issued by the Government of India, has raised significant concerns regarding consumer safety and product quality, as per the official statement released by BIS. To address the issue, the BIS team promptly seized a substantial quantity of finished and semi-finished aluminium foil.
The statement further emphasized that such unscrupulous activities not only undermine the integrity of the product but also put unsuspecting consumers at potential risk. Consequently, BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office are initiating legal proceedings under the BIS Act, 2016.
The gravity of the violation makes the offenders liable to imprisonment for up to 2 years or a fine of no less than Rs 2 Lakh, as stated in the official communication.
BIS has been steadfast in its commitment to eliminate the production and sale of counterfeit ISI marked products, which deceive consumers and provide unjust gains to the culprits.
To ensure the authenticity of the ISI Mark on products, consumers are strongly urged to verify genuineness through the BIS website at www.bis.gov.in or by using the BIS Care App.”
